Kanaval
The insecurities caused by my interracial & intercultural limbo between Haiti and Guatemala pushed me to seek my own collective identity; one that has always been fragile, for not being mulatto or mestizo enough. By exploring both of my countries’ ravaging history, and its religious syncretism as a means for resistance to colonial imposition, I create a metaphor about my own clashing nature. I celebrate it, and the masks that I have and will carry, in my own Kanaval.
